A true hero is honoured!
One of the few large snooker and billiards rooms left of the north side of the Harbour Bridge was recently renamed in honour of a true Australian Hero – Don Huxtable.
As a younger man, Don led an exciting life in the Royal Australia Air Force flying with the 463 Squadron throughout World War 2. During this time Don piloted the Lancaster Bomber on 32 missions over Europe and has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal for his service to his country.
Don has been a member of Hornsby RSL Club for 49 years and during this time has served a combined 40 years as the President and Patron of the Hornsby RSL Billiards and Snooker Club. He is also a Life Member of Hornsby RSL and continues to be active within the Club with his mates.
The dedication of ‘The Don Huxtable Room’ was held on Saturday 14th January with attendance by over 60 mates, patrons, Club Directors and Management of Hornsby RSL all showing their support and gratitude for a true hero.
The Snooker and Billiards Room, located in the Hornsby RSL Club sports five full sized Billiards tables and is open to members of the RSL Club seven days a week.
