This past weekend, Hornsby RSL had the privilege of hosting the Empower Women’s Snooker Tournament, an initiative aimed at promoting inclusivity and encouraging more women to participate in the sport. Organised by the Snooker & Billiards New South Wales (SBNSW), the event welcomed talented female players from across the state, offering them a world-class venue to showcase their skills and passion for snooker.
At the winners’ presentation ceremony, Carlie Tate, a director of SBNSW and the tournament director, expressed her deep gratitude to Hornsby RSL for providing such an exceptional venue. Our billiards room, regarded as one of the finest in NSW, played a crucial role in making this event a grand success. Many of the participants, including those visiting the club for the first time, were thoroughly impressed by our facilities and expressed their hope to return for future tournaments.
A particularly exciting highlight of the tournament was the emergence of six new women players—dubbed the “Hornsby Girls”—who took their first steps into competitive snooker at this state-level event.
Thanks to the club’s commitment to fostering new talent through regular coaching sessions, these debut players performed admirably and were grateful for the opportunity to develop their skills in such a supportive environment.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to SBNSW, the board, and the incredible women who participated, making this event such a memorable one. Hornsby RSL remains committed to supporting women in sport and looks forward to hosting more inclusive snooker tournaments in the future.
Stay tuned for upcoming events and join us in celebrating the growth of women’s snooker in NSW!
