Saturday 25th April - We don't have to stand together to be together

This ANZAC Day is an opportunity to reflect on how lucky we are, the sacrifices that have been made for us to live in a free and fair nation. It is a time where mateship, humour, ingenuity, courage and endurance and more important than ever. Let us continue to respect the day, remember the sacrifice, honour our traditions and celebrate our freedom.

LIGHT UP THE DAWN - We are encouraging the community to join together by standing at the end of your driveway on the morning of ANZAC Day with a phone light, candle or torch to light up the dawn. At 6am, we will join together to recite the ode and play the Last Post, followed by one-minute silence to mark when the first Australian troops landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula on April 25, 2015. Additionally, you can live stream the Australian War Memorial Dawn Service via the ABC from 5.30am.

PLACE A POPPY - Place a poppy in your window, on your balcony, letterbox or door in remembrance and support of our diggers. Refer to our Facebook page for colouring in templates to use. Alternatively, use chalk to draw a poppy on the driveway or footpath and include the words 'Lest We Forget'.

REACH OUT - This is an opportunity to invoke the ANZAC value of mateship and check in to see how a mate is doing. Many people are alone during this time of isolation, and a few clicks is all it takes to stay connected. We are encouraging everyone to check in with particularly with the elderly and vulnerable, and to take extra care if each each in the lead up to and around ANZAC Day.
